EMA briefing: Omicron BA.4 & BA5 - predominant in July

On July 7, EMA had a regular press briefing regarding COVID-19, presenting the latest updates.
In brief recommendations:
- New wave of COVID-19 is hitting Europe
- Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants are spreading rapidly, being highly transmissible; These variants are expected to become dominant by end of July 2022
- Europe is now in a better position due to high vaccination rates
- Current vaccines expected to offer (at least some) protection against these variants
