Q&A: How the aging immune system impacts the brain

May 25, 2022

In this Q&A by Medeea Popescu, Katrin Andreasson, a professor of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford University, "studies how immune cells can cause harmful brain inflammation and contribute to the development of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease."

A glimpse into the Q&A:

"Q: Since there’s not a magic bullet yet, is there anything that people could do as they're aging to slow the negative effects of the aging immune system on the brain?

A: Well, the big one is exercise. We don't have any disease modifying therapies in the clinic yet, but what we do have is strong published research showing that exercise and a Mediterranean diet reduce inflammation and promote healthy aging."
